LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse has been
active since December 1, 1875, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse
lights the sky on the North Carolina coast between the Cape Henry
light to the north and to Bodie Island south. The lighthouse remains
unpainted today exposing the thousands of bricks used to form
the structure. Automated in 1939, the night beacon still flashes
at 20-second intervals to warn ships of barrier islands along
the coast. |
